Is this the Best Possible World? Does God Have Free Will?

[caption id="attachment_6939" align="alignright" width="288"] Click on me, reader![/caption] I wrote this some time ago in a few places and thought I would resurrect it on account of my new ebook, The Problem With "God": Classical Theism Under

Is God Infinite?

This post is from my friend James A. Lindsay, a PhD mathematician and counter-apologist. I edited his book Dot, Dot, Dot: Infinity Plus God Equals Folly and really enjoyed it. The book is concerned with the nature of God and his claimed infinite properties. He has recently released another book

God as a Mirror Reflection - God as Verification, not Judgement

I gave a talk last night (my God on Trial talk) which went down a treat. There was a Creationist Christian in the audience who was really good value (all things considered - we had some great back and forth). At one point he pointed out that life is much

God and the Problem with Age

A interesting quote came in from Marcus Ashes some time back upon which I would like to expand. He said: I haven't read the book yet but does anyone know if it talks about the age problem with regards to Christianity? For example Christopher Hitchens died at the

The Problem With "God": Classical Theism Under The Spotlight

This is just a reminder that I have a new ebook available called: The Problem with "God". My new ebook is available now on Kindle, Nook and Kobo. James A. Lindsay (Dot, Dot, Dot: Infinity Plus God Equals Folly) kindly wrote a foreword to support the project. The

Who is the Sinner?

This is a little argument from a friend of mine, Julian. Let me know what you think:

God's experiential knowledge and not creating anything

Those who adhere to divine foreknowledge adhere to the notion that God has complete knowledge. He is omniscient. Thomas Nagel once asked the intriguing question, "What does it feel like to be a bat?" God would know, surely? God, I would argue (probably, if I were a Christian)

The Problem with Divine Command Theory #3

I have previously talked about Divine Command Theory (DCT) in detail a couple of times before (here and here). I have been reading a paper called "Can God's Goodness Save The Divine Command Theory From Euthyphro?" by Jeremy Koons. It's a cracking paper and worth reading. The abstract reads:

Great first review for my new ebook on classical theism

John Grove, a commenter here on occasion at ATP, and a great supporter of my work, has really kindly placed the first review of my new ebook on classical theism: God's omni characteristics. It is an amalgam (the book) of my posts, with some original extras, which I think is a super one-stop shop for

Justin Schieber's Real Atheology

It comes with great sadness to announce that my favourite podcast of all time, Reasonable Doubts, will no longer continue to be. This upsets me because there is no greater podcast on the internet than this one. RD has been with me for a good number of years and has provided ample stimuli for me to p

New ebook on classical theism out soon

I have put together some previous blog writing with a little bit of original stuff to create a hopefully narrative cumulative case against the god of classical theism (with all of the omni characteristics). Most of the posts can be found here; the project was advised of me elsewhere so

Does God have a sense of humour?

There is this prevailing ide that God has personhood and that humanity is somehow styled on his image. Atheists believes that the causality here works the other way such that humanity existed and styled God on the image of humanity. But who would want to let minor quibbles like that get in the way o

Classical theism: God's characteristics shown as incoherent

The classical theistic components of God, his characteristics of being all-loving, all-powerful and all-knowing don't work very well together. This has been something which I have sought to elucidate over the years, so I thought I would compile a synopsis of where we are at with the idea of OmniGod,

Guest Post: God's Love Should Be Superior To Man's

This is a guest post by Little Fire who submitted through a friend. An interesting little twist on the idea of God's love: WHY? Why Is God's Love Conditional? Love is different for everyone because we all put different conditions or expectations on the ones we love -- consciously and unconscio

Propositional content of the inner witness of God

How many times do we hear Christians claiming that they have had direct experience of God as a self-authenticating inner witness? It is pretty common as a debate closer. William Lane Craig famously uses it, as in here:

God lied or knowingly deceived

Another little piece from my friend Julian Haydon. This one succinctly documents the issue that God seems to have entirely changed his revelation and theological scenario, if you will, from the OT to the NT. The same can be said for the soul, heaven and hell: GOD LIED OR KNOWINGLY

Hell ain’t nothing without Satan

One of my published works, The Little Book Of Unholy Questions, is a romp through the cumulative case against God set out as 501 leading questions, supported by commentary introducing and closing each section. After my section on Hell, I look briefly at the idea of Satan, who is nothing more than a

Answers by an Honest Christian

My friend Julian Haydon questions this: ANSWERS BY AN HONEST CHRISTIAN    Did anything exist before the Creation? …Only God, who has always existed and always will.   There was no evil, no sorrow, no disease, no pain, no suffering before the Creation? …Right, only God existed.   Did God know what would
