"God on Trial" talk went down a treat

"God on Trial" talk went down a treat

I was invited to speak on the last night of Reason Week at Southampton University, organised by the Atheist Society. I have spoken there a number of ties and know the people who run it and really enjoy speaking there. There are some philosophy students who are involved which means that the chat in t

I am speaking (on free will) at the Brighton Fringe Festival

Brighton Fringe is the largest arts festival in England and one of the largest fringe festivals in the world. It sets out to stimulate, educate and entertain a wide audience by providing a showcase for diverse art forms. Everyone can take part, in fact, whilst enjoying a friendly and supportive envi

It went very well

I have been away for the weekend, so a little more quiet. Last week, I did a talk for the newly created Worthing Skeptics in the Pub at which I even received a live piano introduction. Nice! The pianist played 'The Devil in Disguise' I believe - fitting.

High Wycombe talk well received

I did my Nativity talk at the Wycombe Skeptics in the Pub (nice boutique beer pub with a menu of beers longer than my arm, both arms).the talk went well, and there were some interesting questions throughout the talk itself. The Q and A was very tangential and went

The "Case for God" on Trial

Here is my talk to the Dorset Humanists given this last week. It was really well received and got great feedback from audience and organisers alike. The video is of good quality though you may need to turn it up to hear some of the questions a little more clearly. The chops are out and looking might

New Talk - "The Case for God on Trial" went down a treat

I gave my first talk of this name this week to Dorset Humanists, covering five different arguments (4 against God and 1 for), allowing for audience participation after each argument. Personally, I really enjoyed it - disseminating some quite intricate, at times, philosophical and theological arguments to a popular audience,

Philosophy table well-received

Last night's meeting at Portsmouth Skeptics int he Pub was great fun. Rather than have a single speaker, previous speakers were asked to come back and host tables on whatever subjects they deemed fit and interesting. I hosted a philosophy table and primed people with a few questions

Talk on free will is really well received

I was lucky enough to be asked back to the Dorset Humanists, based in Bournemouth, UK, to give a talk on free will. I had previously given them a talk on the Nativity, based on my book, The Nativity: A Critical Examination. They appeared to enjoy it enough to ask me back, and I obliged.

Brain Scans Might Predict Future Criminal Behavior

What is frustrating about this article is the fact that Science Daily produced it and I saw it just as I returned from giving a talk on free will to the Dorset Humanists. Grr. I talked about similar predicitve pieces of research, such as lack of fear conditioning in toddlers and criminal records, as

Some reflection on my Nativity debate with Randal Rauser

It's been a few months since my radio debate with Randal Rauser on the subject of the reliability of the nativity accounts in the Gospels of Luke and Matthew. You can listen to the debate by following the link from here. If you have not listened to it, please let me know what you think.

From another campaign for abstinence (from booze…and we all remember how well that went, right?). Thanks to Wikimedia for the image.

The Nativity - a talk, and a debate with apologist Randal Rauser

On Thursday night I gave another talk on the Nativity to the Portsmouth Skeptics in the Pub. The talk was a great success. I was able to establish the case in some good detail as I set out in my last book The Nativity: A Critical Examination. There was a good turnout for the relaunching of PSITP and

My first talk on the Nativity, yesterday, went well

So I gave my first public talk on my book The Nativity: A Critical Examination yesterday. It was a bit of a warm up for my next to, being to a group of students at a small conference (very small!) of humanist / atheists representatives from local universities (they were doing
