Why a Black Targaryen makes more sense than a white Jesus

If your orbit includes Amazon Prime, HBO, and social media, you may well be aware of a whole lot of fuss being kicked up in terms of casting decisions. It has come to the horror of many fantasy fiction literalists that recent TV prequels to The Lord of the Rings

Gender Identity Debated

I have listened to the first speaker in this debate so far but will continue to watch the whole thing. But I just thought I'd share a couple of early thoughts. First, this is why debates about conceptual nominalism and realism are important. Once you understand the distinction,

Humanists Launch Project to Uplift Marginalized Writers

From the American Humanist Association: Today, the American Humanist Association (AHA) launches the Call for Voices project, which strives to increase the visibility of historically marginalized writers. This project was piloted in 2020 by the Feminist Humanist Alliance and LGBTQ Humanist Alliance and will now be a part of the

Freedom of Speech Advocates as Hypocritical Right-Wingers Wanting Permission to Offend

This is such a common problem; those who claim that they are advocates of freedom of speech merely do so because they want to be able to offend people freely and with no consequences. Rights should come with responsibilities, but in this context, it is more often about demanding rights

Reflections on Dawkins and the AHA

The AHA have just rescinded an award they gave to Richard Dawkins in 1996. It seems like this episode has created something of a hubbub in the skeptical community - itself a bunch of people loosely associating with each other by hanging around on atheist websites like this. Herding cats,

American Humanist Association Board Statement Withdrawing Honor from Richard Dawkins

I guess Dawkins has a bit of the Twitter-jitters about him, rather like you-know-who. This is from the American Humanist Association: Established in 1953, the Humanist of the Year Award is conferred annually by the American Humanist Association (AHA), recognizing the awardee as an exemplar of humanist values. Capitol Double Standards

As my friend said: This meme is making the rounds and misses a key point. Two years after his release, Kalief hanged himself at his parents' house. He was 22. Racism kills. To add to this... Fun fact. The 2018 Sunrise climate change protest had twice as many protesters

Jordan Peterson, Baking Cakes, Gays, Black People and Changing Minds

This clip is brilliant for a couple of reasons. Firstly, Jim Jeffries provides a brilliant analogy to show how denying baking a cake due to someone's sexuality is logically equivalent to denying black people entry into a shop or onto a bus; since that is intuitively wrong, then

Astounding Cognitive Dissonance and Trump Support

I am writing this as both a challenge and a response to someone I know on Facebook who has featured namelessly as an interlocutor in a number of articles here. I am interested in his, as a well-read and educated British citizen, public support for Trump. He will produce memes

Ginsburg and Her Replacement

Ruth Bader Ginsburg sadly passed away and there seems to be little that the Democrats can do to stop her replacement being installed. This meme points out some potential hypocrisies: Here are a few more for  you: This last one is interesting for me as it evokes the need to

On Deference

Deference is a funny thing. Well, it is to me, anyway. The longer I have philosophised and analysed the world around me, the more I have felt that we are all humans and we are all, in some sense, equals. With regard to myself and my own competencies, I have

Misleading US History

There is often so much we don't know about our own histories, and this has become ever more evident in the wake of the Black Lives Matter movement that has certainly awakened me to my severe lack of knowledge of British Empire history. I was watching Last Week

The Theological Roots of White Supremacy

The Black-White IQ Gap as Being Environmental

I am tired of the racists who come on these threads and attempt to spread their agenda-laden claptrap of race realism. The latest example was an article I wrote concerning a comment that I so thoroughly debunked that it was no surprise to see the level of cognitive dissonance in

Economics

This Is Racist.

I recently wrote a post on the Monopoly analogy to help explain systemic racism. Whilst many people protest (too much) against the idea that systemic racism exists, the simple fact of the matter is that there is myriad evidence to support it, from educational attainment data (in terms of teacher

The Monopoly Analogy for Systemic Racism

Ben Shapiro recently went on the Joe Rogan Show where they talked about systemic racism. The interesting thing about the Joe Rogan Show (JRS) is that, when he often has right-wing thinkers and commentators on his show, they temper their more rabid opinions and theories in order to try and

Tucker Carlson's Chief Writer Resigns Over Racist and Sexist Comments

Tucker Carlson has long been known for his racist views and attitudes, including calling white supremacy a hoax. You could fill hours and hours of video with his racist monologues. Recently, his opinions have seen big-name advertisers pull their spots from his show. That is newsworthy in and of itself.

A Personal Example of Manifested Systemic Racism

The Best, Most Informative Debate I Have Seen

Debunking "The Myth of Police Brutality" Again

I Learnt a Lot from Akala

Akala might be known to some (though probably few here, given the primarily American readership) as a British rapper, but more recently, he has become something of a political commentator and educator. Wikipedia introduces him as... ...a British rapper, journalist, author, activist and poet from Kentish Town, London. In 2006,
