Wildlife decline may lead to 'empty landscape'

This is worrying. From the BBC: Populations of some of the world's largest wild animals are dwindling, raising the threat of an "empty landscape", say scientists. About 60% of giant herbivores - plant-eaters - including rhinos, elephants and gorillas, are at risk of extinction, according to re

Australia bottom of the climate pile

Australia bottom of the climate pile

Australia was the worst performing industrial country in terms of climate change in 2014, a new report has said. The report by two non-government organisations said the poor ranking was due in part to policy changes made by the current coalition government.

US elections: the worst news

From i09: All together now: Fucking fuck. Senator Inhofe, who is poised to become the most powerful senator on the environment, is the same man who has compared the scientific consensus over manmade global warming to Adolf Hitler's conception of the Jewish conspiracy.

Global Documentary Project - a Force for Change

This is something that has been a long time in the making from local friends of mine whom I met through Transition Fareham, part of the Transition Network, which seeks to tackle the peak oil problem on a local level. Kate and Paul are visionaries who have gone out there and done things make the worl

Political Libertarianism, Science Denialism, Philosophy and the likes of James Delingpole

I am going to look at political libertarianism in this post in the context of morality, ethics and philosophy. This has been brought on by the Any Questions live radio programme on BBC Radio 4 the other day from the Centre for Alternative Technology in Machynlleth, Wales which featured right-wing Co

Quote of the Day - Daydreamer1

This is a great quote from Daydreamer1 in response to a recent post on the Energy Secretary declaring that AGW is a dead cert and that science denialism, including from the media, is damaging truth. Daydreamer1 looks at splitting the subject into two points: It is an irony that the

New Battery Design Could Help Solar and Wind Power the Grid

I love renewable energy. It fascinates and excites me in all my geekness. But it needs to be competitive. Is the tide turning (get it?)? Science Daily: Apr. 24, 2013 — Researchers from the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory and Stanford University have design

Why I don't like cats. They kill literally billions...

Feline friend or feline fiend? Cats are one of the top threats to US wildlife, killing billions of animals each year, a study suggests. The authors estimate they are responsible for the deaths of between 1.4 and 3.7 billion birds and 6.9-20.7 billion mammals annually.

AAAARRRRGGGGGHHHHH - it's all going to pot!

I can't believe it. My country (UK) has a coalition government between a right-wing party, the Conservatives, and a left-wing party, the Liberal Democrats.
