A summary of Trump's crimes. Well, his recent ones

The past has finally caught up with Donald Trump. This has been a long and torturous story to show that eventually, and even when we thought it wouldn't, bad people doing bad things will end up in trouble. But what exactly has the former president done wrong? The

Replacing the Senior Liberal Judge on the Supreme Court

This is an interesting little watch concerning the 83-year-old Stephen Breyer's future on the Supreme Court. It is particularly pertinent given the absolute shocker that is taking place in Texas at the moment...   Stay in touch! Like A Tippling Philosopher on Facebook: A Tippling Philosopher You can also

Kenyan Lawyer Sues Israel, Italy for Killing Jesus Christ, Once Again

This is a deliciously ridiculous story. Of course, it's true. People are silly. From the UG Standard: A Kenyan lawyer Dolo Ididis is attempting to acquit Jesus of the crimes he was found guilty of committing some 2,000 years ago and overturn the death penalty handed down

Humanists Call for Full Investigation and Possible Impeachment of Brett Kavanaugh

From the American Humanist Association: The American Humanist Association (AHA), joins the Freedom from Religion Foundation, in calling for a full investigation into Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh. If a new investigation finds that Kavanaugh had lied to Congress, the AHA will call for his immediate impeachment, since lying to

The Dependence of Biblical Law Codes on Ancient Near Eastern Law Codes (II)

I am writing a book on the Exodus to build on both my previous two books (The Nativity: A Critical Examination [UK] and is The Resurrection: A Critical Examination of the Easter Story [UK]).  The working title is The Exodus: A Critical Examination of the Moses Story. I previously posted

Statement from the AHA on the verdict of the Derek Chauvin trial

So, the verdict was "guilty on all counts", which means that about half the country will be satisfied with the result, and half of the country are still wishing they were in 1950s Mississippi. This is from the AHA: The American Humanist Association is satisfied by the verdict

Chauvin, Causality and JL Mackie's INUS

You could be mistaken for thinking that this post was about free will. It can be, but I am more concerned with the general idea of causality in the context of Derek Chauvin's court case to decide whether the death of George Floyd was homicide or not. [caption

Atlanta Shooter's Church Deletes Dodgy Sermons

The Atlanta gunman recently shot a number of women, most of them being Asian American women. This has caused a number of uncomfortable conversations to take place - was this a case of misogyny or good old-fashioned racism, or both, or neither? FiveThirtyEight had a really worthwhile conversation on this

Comments on the Catholic Sex Abuse Scandal

I recently ran a pretty big article on the statistics for paedophilia in the Catholic Church, which received a number of very interesting comments that I think are worth sharing with you. Thanks muchly to the readership for indulging. Astrin Ymris: Many years ago in an online debate I pointed

Free Will: Just Deserts

Capitol Double Standards

As my friend said: This meme is making the rounds and misses a key point. Two years after his release, Kalief hanged himself at his parents' house. He was 22. Racism kills. To add to this... Fun fact. The 2018 Sunrise climate change protest had twice as many protesters

Trump's Phone Call and the Law

Fascinating Cohen Interview

This is well worth a watch. Fascinating predictions. Trump won't admit defeat (he won't turn up to the inauguration) and will start up a right-wing media organisation to fracture the FOXNews - OAN dynamic. Murdoch will come to hate Trump (FOX are already losing viewers over

Astounding Cognitive Dissonance and Trump Support

I am writing this as both a challenge and a response to someone I know on Facebook who has featured namelessly as an interlocutor in a number of articles here. I am interested in his, as a well-read and educated British citizen, public support for Trump. He will produce memes

Amy Coney Barrett Shows Her True Colours

We are in a situation where Trump's one-term administration has had three times more indictments than Nixon's. This is corruption central, and nothing reflects this more for me than the deeply hypocritical manner the GOP are going about their SCOTUS nomination. They are prepared to do

Dark Money and Selecting a Conservative Catholic Judge

This performance from Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse is stunningly good. And this should make anyone interested in far and honest politics utterly ashamed of what the GOP is doing right now. Vested interests. $250 million spent why? "If you find hypocrisy in the daylight, look for power in the shadows.

Why Cheat Your Way to Victory or Challenge in Court?

Trump is hell-bent on ruling for longer than two terms. He has been mentioning 16 years at rallies. But he is seriously losing in the polls, so he is trying to cheat through voter suppression, disenfranchisement, gerrymandering and casting aspersions on the democratic values and mechanisms of the US. Why?

The Black-White IQ Gap as Being Environmental
