Some More Election Reflections (Messaging & Electoral Reform)
Here are a few more nuggets to discuss:
- It makes not one substantive jot of difference whether Biden wins in a landslide or by the skin of his teeth. The only thing that really matters past whether Biden gets in or not at all, is the Senate. That the Democrats look not to have flipped the Senate (Georgia run offs aside) is arguably more important than whether Biden or Trump win. The Democrats need to look at themselves long and hard over this and the vast amounts of money they have spent not to achieve anything. Oh, and Cal Cunningham shouldn't send pictures of his todger, extra-maritally, just before an election. That was a shoo-in.
- Given that two out of the last three Republican presidents have lost the national vote, and given that Joe Biden has won the national vote in record numbers, there is yet again a lot of talk about getting rid of the electoral college system. this would be great and far more representative of the country as a whole. However, you would probably not see another Republican president for a very long time…
- Andrew Yang just smashed it out of the water on CNN when discussing dissecting the Democratic Party in America, and issues with appealing to the working-class. It is not just about messaging, but backing a clear message up with policies. Soo many working-class people suck up the talking points to think that the Democrats are a coastal elite party and not one designed to look after the interests of the working and middle classes. Policies AND messaging. ("I want to speak to people who shower after work not people who shower before work." - Tim Ryan)
- Where the size of victory does have importance is in being a reflection of national psyche. For Democrats to have lasting sustainability, they need to appeal to the working class. With massive deunionisation over time, is this easily achievable?
